Above them is the more recent red limestone rock which also contrasts beautifully with the bright blue sky. It is among these that you will also find fossils, shells, and even the footprints of dinosaurs.
About 300m beneath the waters of Salema Beach you can also visit the French warship L’Ocean, sunk during the Seven Years’ War.

There are some fabulous local bars and also restaurants in Salema, some traditional gift shops, and convenience stores. The city of Lagos is to the east and Sagres to the West, both approx. 15 km away. In about 15 minutes by car, you can also be by the west coast.

If you want to do more than to just lie on the beach there is golf, tennis, spas, horseback riding, boat trips, and nature walks all within a few miles. From the beach cliffs, there are also great launching points for practicing paragliding.
